Male Permanent Procedure/Vasectomy/NSV

Vasectomy/NSV is a safe and effective method of birth control for men who have at least two living children and a minor who is at least 1 year old and who definitely does not want to have any more children in the future.

How is vasectomy/NSV operation performed?

This method does not require a knife or surgical blade. Instead of a surgical blade, the vas deferens on both sides are brought out and ligated through a single incision along the midline of the scrotum with the help of specially prepared narrow and sharp forceps. The result is no stitches and no bleeding. Currently NSV method of vasectomy is done all over the world including Bangladesh.


Benefits of vasectomy/NSV operation

• Permanent method is very safe and effective.

• This operation does not require any incisions

• Sexual potency and physical strength do not decrease and there is no problem in intercourse.

• Sexual desire, ability and satisfaction may increase as the woman does not have to worry about pregnancy.

• No risk of long-term side-effects or health damage.

• Extremely easy and safe operation. Fainting is not required. The operation site is anesthetized, resulting in no pain;

• Go home within 20-30 minutes after the operation.


Disadvantages of vasectomy/NSV operation

• Permanent methods require deliberation before deciding;

• Although it is a minor operation, there is potential for some risk;

• Not effective immediately. It takes at least three months to become effective. The recipient must use a condom or the wife must use another effective method for those three months after the operation;

• Recipient may want children after the operation, in which case reattachment operation is required.


Following financial benefits are provided by the government to the recipient including 1 lungi and necessary medicines for Vasectomy/NSV operation. Also the referrer is paid Rs.345.00 per recipient.
